Visakhapatnam: Custom House, Visakhapatnam has received a revenue of Rs11,198 crore till January during current fiscal. Visakhapatnam Customs contributed revenue of Rs15,167 crore to the national exchequer during last financial year.

Visakhapatnam Customs has jurisdiction over the ports at Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram and Visakhapatnam International Airport, various CFSs & Visakha Container Terminal.

Senior officials at the the International Customs Day celebration here expressed the confidence that this year they will register an impressive growth rate.

Apart from the staff and officers of the department, importers, exporters, Custom House Agents, custodians of various Container Freight Stations, ports and other stakeholders attended.

International Customs Day is celebrated by the Customs Community all over the world on January 26 every year. In India, it is being celebrated on February 15 as January 26 happens to be the Republic Day. The day is celebrated under the aegis of World Customs Organization (WCO) headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

WCO is recognised as the voice of the global customs community with 180 Customs Administrations as members worldwide.

Each year International Customs Day is celebrated with a specific theme. This year the theme is "Customs delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security and Prosperity".

Visakhapatnam Customs is playing a significant role in nation building through revenue collection, trade facilitation and safeguarding the economic integrity of the country, Visakhapatnam Port Authority Chairman M Angamuthu, said in his address at the meeting.

Among others, M. Srinivas, Development Commissioner, VSEZ, Sanjay Rathi, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Visakhapatnam GST & Customs Zone and and N. Sridhar, Principal Commissioner of Customs, Custom House, spoke. Mementos and awards were given to the representatives from the trade who demonstrated best performance in their respective fields.
